Yesterday I attended an open house for the proposed development and revitalization of the 1300 block of Marine Drive in West Vancouver. I grew up in Ambleside, on the 1300 block to be exact and I think this project is a great idea!
Grosvenor, the developers behind the project have worked closely with Canadian Architect James Cheng who designed the Shangri La and the Fairmont Pacific Rim, to name a few. The proposed development will be 7 stories high have 98 residential units, as well as, commercial and retail space.
West Van is a fairly sleepy community compared to other residential areas in Metro Vancouver. Currently, not very many restaurants are open late and the only traces of any sort of West Van nightlife is at the Park Royal Village. The project would bring back some life in to the community. On the North Shore, we have seen some dramatic changes take place in Lower Lonsdale and Lynn Valley, and it would be nice to see Ambleside get some TLC too.
As you can imagine some West Van residents are oppose to the project. If you have an opinion, I encourage you to attend the public hearing on November 21st at the Kay Meek Centre, where the Mayor and Council would like to hear from the general public.
